David Volk, President, Owner

​

David graduated from Bismarck Junior College in 1979 with an Associate of Arts degree in Business Management. In 1982, David graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management. David worked for Associated Pool Builders, Inc. from 1975 to 1981 as a job foreman working in the gunite and pool mechanical trades. From 1982 to 1990 David was employed by Wanzek Construction, Inc., a highway and heavy general contractor. During those eight years, David had the following job responsibilities: process mechanical estimator & manager of Dove Construction WBE/Subsidiary Company, and manager of the swimming pool division. In 1990 David returned to Associated Pool Builders, Inc. as a construction manager and senior estimator.

 

Brian Lardy, Controller

Brian graduated from Dickinson State University in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and passed the CPA exam that same year.  He has worked for various companies and industries during his professional career, including health care, transportation, retail and non-profit.  He joined APBI in October 2020.

Hunter Volk, Engineer, Project Manager

​

Hunter worked for Associated Pool Builders, Inc. in the summers from 2012 to 2014. Hunter graduated from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2018 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for a civil engineering firm from 2014 to 2022 where he was involved in the design, estimation, project management, surveying, and construction observation for various municipal projects. Hunter graduated from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2021 with a Master’s of Science degree in Construction Engineering and Management. Hunter recently obtained his professional engineers license in 2022 and is currently registered in North Dakota and South Dakota. He joined APBI in April 2022.

Matthew Selman, Project Manager

​

Matthew began working in the aquatics industry as a lifeguard and swim instructor. In high school he found his passion in a summer job servicing Class C pools.      After graduating from The University of Minnesota - Twin Cities with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering he began managing commercial      pool maintenance. Over time, as the engineer in him came out, he began overseeing renovation and resurface work as well. After a short stint in the residential field, he found a place at APBI that allows him to apply both his existing knowledge of the aquatics industry and his training as an engineer. He is a PHTA Instructor, an Advanced Certified Building Professional, an NPC Certified Start Up Technician, and a voting member of the PHTA Code Action Committee. He joined APBI in August 2023.
